Nuggets of Wisdom
We hope these tidbits of wisdom are helpful and informative. They are not in any particular order.
The Old Testament has 39 books, and the New Testament has 27 books. The first four books of the New Testament (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) are called "gospels." The Christmas story is found only in Matthew and Luke (and they tell different parts). The books of the Bible were written by over 40 different authors over a span of 2000 years. GCC typically uses the NIV translation, but there are lots of good translations out there. We also really like the NASB, NKJV, NLT, and the Message, among others. One false translation is the New World Translation put out by Jehovah's Witnesses. To understand a verse more fully, it is often necessary to read the paragraph or chapter that it is in. Context is king! The book of Acts tells about how the church began and tells stories about its beginning. Memorizing scriptures that are important to you is probably easier than you think. Some stories told in the Bible would receive an "R" rating in the theaters. There are a few different ways to "correctly" interpret the book of Revelation. The words "Trinity," "Rapture," and "Discipleship" never appear in the Bible . The Old Testament was originally written in Hebrew. The New Testament was originally written in Greek. It is unlikely that December 25 was actually the date of Jesus' birthday. Psalm 119 is the longest chapter in the Bibie. Psalm 117 is the shortest.More to come...
