GROW
Discipleship....
... is just a fancy word for becoming better followers (disciples) of Jesus Christ. Our goal as Christians is to constantly become more like Him--in our actions, our thoughts, and every part of our lives. This doesn't happen overnight. It's a long journey of development and growth and it usually includes a lot of mistakes along the way. As a church, we want to help each other on our journeys. It's always more fun to travel with a friend.
Which soil are you?
"Some people are like seed along the path, where the word is sown. As soon as they hear it, Satan comes and takes away the word that was sown in them. Others, like seed sown on rocky places, hear the word and at once receive it with joy. But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away. Still others, like seed sown among thorns, hear the word; but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful. Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop—thirty, sixty or even a hundred times what was sown."
Your Spiritual Growth ...
Mark 4:15-20
...is YOUR responsibility. You must take the initiative. You must take some necessary steps. Having said that, it is NOT something you just do on your own.
The HOLY SPIRIT will partner with you to comfort you, strengthen you, help you understand Scripture, empower you to fulfill God's will in your life, and to stand up to the heavy pressures of temptation.
...But YOU have to listen and be sensitive to the HOLY SPIRIT in your life.
The CHURCH (the people, not the building) will partner with you by offering small group opportunities, Bible studies, classes, large group worship times, home fellowship groups, and mentors who can help you along the way.
...But YOU have to take the steps of either signing up, or showing up, or expressing the need/desire to be a part of these opportunities. Nobody will force you to utilize them, but you are always invited to be a part of them.
Which do you want to be?
